ABOUT ARTIST

John Tee

“Whether painting a quiet landscape or a contemporary abstract, my goal is to make art that suggests space, mass and depth in a visual experience that pulls the viewer into and through the painting.

Keeping in mind "art should first be pleasant to the eye," I begin a painting with a neutral undercoat, adding thin layers of subtle color and outlining forms with a soft graphite pencil or scratch tools. Mass, space and depth is expressed by adding or removing complimentary tones of paint or washes, and further defined by shadows and textures.

Growing up in the deep South I was influenced by images of its long vistas of bays, swamps and farms. Followed by a degree in Architecture from Louisiana State University, I continued my interest in art with travels throughout Europe and studies at Emory University and The Atlanta High Museum of Art.”
